Caring for a cast iron skillet may seem a little daunting but it really isn't that complicated. Cast iron skillets have the ability to last a lifetime when their cared for properly. Cast iron skillets are extremely versatile, and can be used to cook almost anything. I use them for cakes, eggs, steaks, vegetables, etc. Below are a few tips and articles for cast iron skillet, how to care for them, and common misconceptions.

Tip #1:

It's all about the seasoning! Seasoning your pan before use will help keep the surface clean and keep it non-stick.

1. Scrub the whole skillet with warm, soapy water and a steel wool pad or a rough sponge.

2. Dry it completely, in a oven or stove-top till no moisture remains

3. Use a little flaxseed or canola oil to get a thin layer of oil over the whole skillet. Don't over-do it because your skillet ill be sticky!

4. Cure the skillet upside-down in an oven around 500º for about an hour.

5. Allow to cool, and you're good to go!

Tip #2:

Gently clean your skillet then add a little coat of oil!

1. Use a little soap and water with a non-metal sponge to clean the skillet.

2. Dry it completely in the oven or stove-top

3. Heat the skillet with a little oil, in oven or stove-top till it starts to smoke.

4. Rub the oil around the skillet, creating a thin layer like you did with the seasoning.
